What makes a thesis statement work
The same handful of faults account for most weak statements, and all of them are visible before a single paragraph is written.
- It takes a position rather than announcing a topic
- Someone could reasonably argue the opposite
- It is specific enough to be defended in the word count available
- It signals the structure the paper will follow
- It appears in the introduction, not only in the conclusion
- It answers the question that was actually set
- It is one sentence, or two at most, and says something
